Veteran CNN pundit Alice Stewart found dead at 58; no foul play suspected

Alice Stewart, a respected political adviser and CNN commentator, has prompting an outpouring of grief from colleagues and public figures.

Her body was reportedly of northern Virginia. Authorities do not suspect foul play, attributing her death to some form of medical emergency, CNN reported.

Stewart joined CNN as a political commentator ahead of the 2016 election and became a regular on-air presence.

In a , Stewart described her role at CNN as “to be a conservative voice yet an independent thinker. I’m not a Kool-Aid drinker; I’m not a never-Trumper, and I didn’t check my common sense and decency at the door when I voted for (Trump).”

Mark Thompson, the network’s CEO, reflected on her impact in a company-wide email on Saturday.

“Alice was a very dear friend and colleague to all of us at CNN. A political veteran and an Emmy Award-winning journalist, she brought an incomparable spark to CNN’s coverage,” Thompson wrote. “She was known across our bureaus not only for her political savvy but for her unwavering kindness. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn such an extraordinary loss.”

Born in 1966, in Atlanta, Stewart’s career began in local reporting and production in Georgia. She later moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, to become a news anchor, and her political career took off when she served as communications director for then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

She later held similar roles in several GOP presidential campaigns, including those of Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and Ted Cruz.

Her death Saturday came as a shock to many. wrote CNN anchor Jake Tapper in a post to X.
